The problem with Taiwan is that it might be a 'temporary solution' if China continues to ramp-up the aggression. Also, it's quite densely populated already and the Hongkongers speak the 'wrong' Chinese.
A good first step would be for the west to fully recognise Taiwan as a nation. A good second step would be to embargo the Chinese back to pulling rice out of mud.
Yes, exactly.
China will continue to do just as they please, until such time the rest of the world stands up together.
That won't happen, just look at the West Philippine Sea situation.
China has the sense not to annoy too many people at the same time.
Also, the Chinese Communist Party is not completely sure about physically invading democratic countries.
Despite carefully stage-managed spectacles, the fighting force and loyalty of the conscript Peoples' Liberation Army is 'dubious'. Especially in the case of Taiwan, the fear is that if they send half-a-million armed men to fight their 'fellow Chinese', then they will get 3/4 million back wearing Taiwanese uniforms.
It could all backfire badly, and Xi Jinping could go the same way that Galtieri did.
