Well Nick I had the 991 not A and found it ok and with the built in ATU quite a versatile piece of kit.
All the issues the old version had have been ironed out, no preamp on 144 ssb but I don't know if the new one has?
Fusion isn't perfect in the 991 regards audio quality but it works.
I have had the 991 and icoms 7100 and I think it's fair to say both are similar in features but given the choice I'd go 7100.
Also dstar has always been my favourite maybe a little biased but that's my thoughts.
I am a Yaesu man though Nick.
