A contradictory state of affairs.

Unread post by G0BHD »

Here's a quote from a newly released news item..........
"Oldham and parts of Blackburn and Pendle will face extra restrictions to stem the spread of Covid-19.

From midnight on Saturday, residents in these areas will not be allowed to socialise with anyone from outside their household.

Workplaces, childcare facilities and businesses, including restaurants and pubs, will remain open."

Is it just me finds these two statements, both stated within the very same quote, somewhat at odds with each other?
Surely within the listed "OK" places, you are still potentially socialising/mixing with people "not from your own household"?
And they wonder why folks don't have a clue whats going on and what is currently socially acceptable.

They may seem that way, but what they have done is stop a considerable amount of mixing without shutting down businesses again.
It will probably be enough to regain control, if not, no doubt stricter measures will follow.

The other thing that gets me, is that new restrictions will be announced, but won't come into force until up to a week later.

That says to me "Oh, things can't be that serious then if we can afford to keep carrying on as per currently until then"

Happened here just this last week, new restriction in force as of yesterday but announced a week ago.

And then the day of or day after said restrictions have come into force (again, happened here last night, the above mentioned one) "the restrictions will be eased very soon", talk about policy on the run.

Everybody has the right to be confused when this sort of crap goes on :x

It doesn't just seem that way, it is that way!
I truly doubt the latest "part" imposition will "regain control", there will just be another spike because of some other aspect of currently lifted restrictions now allowed life, and then the blame game will "shift" to there!
It's all becoming a headless chickens numbers exercise in my humble opinion of course.
Either go draconian and impose a full lockdown, or simply cut your losses and take whatever comes, these part dabbling nonsense ones do very little in truth.
And often are ignored now by many anyway, as they have just become sick and tiered of the whole affair.
As time goes by I strongly suspect more and more will simply not comply whatever is last minute imposed upon them.
Look at travel restrictions, 11th hour decisions to make some destination no longer safe, and at the same time Portugal gets the latest "Green Light".
So what happens?, folks swap their holiday choice now to Portugal, and far more than would have done descend upon that destination, that for a while enjoys the lucrative footfall, then they get a spike, and re added to the list of no go areas, leaving another load of travelers having to pay through the nose to get back before "4 am" on whatever morning and avoid a two week isolation period, it's like a "Spin the bottle" damn merry go round!
Either "Do it" or don't!

It's pathetic a lockdown my backside, bring in a curfew and the army in no movement unless it's one trip for food or medication simple.

You are not wrong Mark, the first true lock down was a proper lock down, everything else since lifting restrictions has been nothing but fudge the numbers lip service!
Truth?....they can not afford another "hard" proper one, £2 trillion in debt and counting! ;)

Well, we are obviously looking at it from different angles, and I can see the logic of it, but to me, I can understand, how it seems different to you.

I don't think it is possible for any one to say it is definitely one way or the other, as different people will differ in opinions, and can only state what they see from their opinion of it.

I think there is a chance that it may be enough to regain control, not only by direct action but also by social acceptance effects.

And there within lies the elephant in the room.
As time goes by, more and more people will start reacting to "socially imposed restrictions", by simply voting with their feet and saying they have had enough and do not intent to comply anymore!
So unless it's at the point of a gun, watch more and more simply choose the "I will just take my damn chances" route.
It has been an interesting social control experiment for sure, and I have no doubt it has saved many lives, but like all social control experiments it will run its course, and then be ignored no matter what fines are potentially involved for none compliance.
That is just the nature of humans.
They do tend to reach a point where they do not like being "told" what to do.
Even more so when the imposed instructions seem to change daily.

That is unless my 64 years on the planet have not taught me anything about my own species of course.
Here's another couple of "conflicting statements", WHO..... The World Health Organisation, state they think the virus will be "got on top of and done with in two years or less", other top advisors instantly come out of the woodwork with contrary statements like "This is never going away, we will have to live with it as the new normal from now on".
Now who's right, and who's wrong?, and in truth as time goes by who cares or even believes them anymore?
I will be perfectly honest, I am in the "take my damn chances" camp.

There is a train of thought that we should accept Covid-19 as a 'new normal' disease.
Although it is highly contagious, its mortality rate is quite low.
Therefore, we should concentrate on developing medicines to reduce the lethality of the disease for people who already have it.
The logic being that if we develop an effective vaccine, or physically 'stifle' the natural spread of the disease; then it will simply evolve a new strain to get around that, and then we will be back to square one.
