RSGB release Board Proceedings April

Unread post by M3PIE »

The RSGB has released the Board proceedings for January to April, 2020, and they include mention of a possible new UK Beginners amateur radio licence

The RSGB established a Working Group to look into a new UK Beginner Licence. The Working Group held meetings in January and February and a report was given at the RSGB Board meeting on March 15.

It is reported the total number of members of the RSGB is now standing at 20,993 as of the 1st April 2020.

Also reported that membership is holding up. New and re-joining figures for this month are already
50% higher than last year, but it’s too soon to predict an overall pattern.

The launch of the RSGB Handbook was delayed due to current events and the cancellation of various national and
international rallies will have an impact in overall book sales.
Also mail order and web presences are reporting good business.

Mark they have made things quite accessable with the online aspect but they still persist in giving people an even easier ride into a lifelong cornflake packet beginners license..... beggars belief makes me feel like a cb Alfa tango callsign is more rewarding than a full call these days.

Have the RSGB's membership agreed to this?
Will the rest of us even be asked, and would it make any difference?

Have you all noticed from all the other above
1} The number joining the hobby has shot up.

2} The number joining the RSGB 50% higher.
Which equates on both points increase in revenue raised to them.

From the August meeting seems the finances coming into the RSGB are improving.

"RSGB membership increased by 121 in July. Membership currently stands at 21,588.

Remote invigilation of exams continues to be extremely popular with 534 taking
Foundation exams and 25 taking Intermediate in July. This brings the total number of
remote invigilation exams during the last four months to around 1,500 with 1,000 future
bookings."

Along with fees and books.
