That's a lot of scrap metal falling from high above!
I am guessing there will be some serious investigations from the HSE, and various construction site safety boards.
I am honestly surprised the death toll was not higher, with that amount of metal work falling from a above in a populated area.
I used to work regularly down London on the fashion shows at the Excel center, and remember one particularly very windy day we happened to be down there and outside having a fag break, across the river towards the Canary Wharf area, there was a huge tower crane, swaying like you would not believe in the high winds, we were actually placing lip service bets on whether it would stay up or collapse!
At the same time we also saw several planes coming into land at that inner London small airport nearby, do a double take and go around again due to the high cross winds.
No idea if this had anything to do with wind, as they were not that high at the time country wide, but something mechanical has seriously failed for sure.
A very nasty industrial/building site accident, that could have been far worse.
