I am in the wrong trade!
Re: I am in the wrong trade!
I miss the "lazy hazy days" of lock down!
Been back at work quite a few weeks now, job is one week away from final sign off.
Fire alarm system, I cabled it, and fitted all heads and break glasses etc., to the exact spec quoted by the fire alarm company that were advising on a system for the premises.
Comes to commissioning time, they can't get the system running as they reckoned it would.
Two panels in different areas, that cover locally those areas, but should link via data to both display overall system faults or fire events in both areas.
The panels talk one way, but will not talk the other.
So basically you have a repeat uni directional situation, rather than a bi directional repeat either way situation.
At the time it was specified what cables were needed, I asked several times, based on experience of other systems, if they were absolutely sure that that was all that was required cabling wise, they insisted it was, now they are saying it needs double the cabling linking, and I have not done the install correctly!
Also they recon there are cable faults on some of the loops involved, I have checked, double checked, and triple checked, there are NO cable faults FULL STOP!
Basically they STUFFED UP with their initial written down design spec on what cabling was required between the two areas, and now they are two cables short of a full load!
They have apparently "walked away" from the job saying it it all my fault, and left me to sort it out!
And I damn well will!
I have "in writing" their initial design and cabling spec, and they can just bugger off!
Bring on retirement, I have had just about enough of covering for others peoples shortfalls in this damn industry.

Re: I am in the wrong trade!
Yep, when I left the Navy, I did all my sparky tickets, paid by the Navy of course
No intention of being a sparky, but got the tickets etc.
Didn't care what I did, just top the pension up.
I took a job as general maintenance person at a luxury lodges holiday park.
We do a bit of everything.
When they found out I had a sparky chit, could do phone systems, Wi-Fi, TVs, Gym equipment, office machinery, fix electronic equipment etc Don't do a lot else.
But, pay rise was sorted
Not a bad job, do all sorts, nice weather, birds in hot tubs, worst jobs ha

Wow.
Stitch that, Donald.

Re: I am in the wrong trade!
Little bit gaudy for me. I'd have gone for something like the classic BOAC livery, with a normal Union Jack on the tail in place of the Speedbird.
Also needs big shiny Rolls-Royce plates on the engines. If you've got it ... flaunt it.

Re: I am in the wrong trade!
However you view it, a mainly white blow over with a Union Jack on the tail, and a bit of writing down the sides seems little result for £900,000 spent, I hope the bulk of that total went on maintenance and engineering improvements, as if the bulk went on simply a paint job, I couldn't say it was money well spent.
I remain underwhelmed.
