Ranger 2950dx

Unread post by M0VMT »

Had one back in the early 90s, just picked up a nice one boxed but a newer one big first digit.
It's sat on 10 and I've worked all over the last few weeks on 25 watts.
This one has surface mounts but the old ones were the good old get in with your hot poker, this bugger has what they call a E chip and covers 15/12/10 and or course 11 if that makes you happy. 21 to 32
I'm chuffed with it fun little radio and I can keep tabs on all the idiots around here.
Blowing smoke on 28 :D
Sometimes you don't need to spend loads to enjoy radio.

For 10 they are good mate a little keen on receive but all they need is the rf gain knocking back a tad and yes they did the 50mhz one.
They are about the best for us regards cheap alternative for 10.

That was on Ebay. :(

It's what I've said before, hams downunder seem to have an inflated idea of what old gear is worth.

Unfortunately there are people that pay these ridiculous prices, I'm not one of them.

Yep, good old fashioned tv towers, almost everybody has one around here.

A lot of them are now in the defunct category after the guvment gave us satellite tv for free.

Unfortunately, I got diagnosed with Meniere's last November which means climbing towers or ladders is now a no-no.

I have got a piece of wire hanging from it to the other end of the yard and there are plans afoot for a tilt over tower complete with hydraulic tilt arrangement so I don't have to go climbing.

Got all the hydraulics, now just need to organise all the steel to build it.

Oh right Terry my mother has that and can even be bed ridden with it.
Yeah a new mast would be good and on a tilt, mines a little box 40ft galvanized and tilt bolted to the house.
Best thing I did nothing heavy on it just 10 6 2 antennas.

Touch wood, it hasn't got to that stage yet but watching trains go past at a railway crossing can be somewhat uncomfortable.

Plan for the new tower is possibly a cobweb for 40 - 10 and then a couple of beams for 6 and 2 or a log periodic to cover 6 & 2.

I've got a nice 4m long log periodic I might be able to rejig to cover 6 & 2.

No point going for anything higher up as there is nobody with listening range for the UHF and up bands (well, not without megawatts of power).

There's also a 2.1m satellite dish to do something with at some stage.

Time for some shut eye, have to be up at the crack of dawn to take the missus to see the quacks.
