Re: G callsigns for those passing Full exam
The silly thing is that in a few years, when all the real G3's and G4's have gone the way of the G2's, these plastic callsigns will stick out like a sore thumb, just like the G+2's already do. Ofcom should go the whole hog and sell off bog standard callsigns at £250 a pop, just like DVLA do, and cha...

Re: Solar Cycle 25 Prediction
Dr Scott McIntosh recently did a Zoom presentation about his predictions for Solar Cycle 25 for a radio club in the US. It has been recorded and is available to watch (free). It's just over an hour long, with a further Q&A section after that, but if you have any interest in SC25, then it's worth...

Re: Online Full ham radio exams now available
The M0 should have been the first and only one online in my opinion because no practicals are involved. I said this from the outset Mark. The Intermediate licencees should have been the first in line to benefit, as they have already taken the first two steps and have shown a degree of commitment to...

Re: Solar Cycle 25 Prediction
I listened to the NASA teleconference and their long-awaited announcement. I had been hoping for a more detailed explanation of the data and methodology they employed and how they came to their consensus, but I was disappointed. It seemed their announcement was aimed at the press corps with the inte...

Re: 10M SSB Tonight
Activity on 10m has taken a dive since the beginning of September when the summer Sporadic E season came to an abrupt end, but 2020 will be remembered as being one of the better Sp E seasons. I worked just under 2000 QSO's in 89 DXCC on 10m SSB since 1st April. There were a couple of brief openings ...

Re: 10M SSB Tonight
I saw your post on the 10 Metre UK Net group on Facebook Rob. Unfortunately I had other things on just at that time, or else I would have headed out onto some high ground near here and had a listen for you. If you were actually at Waskerly then it might be difficult, but if you were a few miles furt...

Re: Advise for new hams
Yes, I have to agree... and FFS sums it up for me too. To add insult to injury, some of the 'advice' he's giving out is just plain bollox, although I have to admit I didn't (couldn't) watch the whole thing. I've seen a lot of hams wearing hats with their callsign emblazoned on it, but I think ...

Re: What is all this stuff?!
Don't bin it, you have some decent stuff there that someone will buy, even if it's just for spares. The Eddystone 888 was a good receiver in it's day and you also have the accompanying S (signal strength) Meter and the extension speaker, which are getting quite difficult to find these days. It's dif...

Re: Solar Cycle 25 Prediction
You should listen to what he has to say Chris. His predictions are not based on just the last three solar cycles. It's rare to find a scientist of his standing who makes such a public prediction which puts his credibility and reputation on the line. It's a bold prediction, but at least we won't have...

Re: Solar Cycle 25 Prediction
Just an update to this thread which I posted a while back. If anyone is interested, have a listen to the ICQ Amateur Radio podcast Number 332 (link below), where they have an interview with the scientist who has made the claim that Cycle 25 is going to be one of the strongest cycles on record. His n...
