I'm the opposite re paper copies, quite apart from the problem of storing them (without the mice turning them into nests), I find it very tiring to hold books or magazines for any length of time, especially something like the RSGB or ARRL radio handbook.

Thanks for the links. I've downloaded the VHF/UHF DX Book as that was a later issue to the one I have, which is a first edition. I did build the Suffolk transceiver, and used the RX side, I also got a kit for the power Amp, but never did complete it. I bet I have it, somewhere...

The RSGB Book in the other link is an older edition to mine. Mine is the fourth edition with a white cover.

I still like having a 'real' book to sit and read. In fact, any magazine that I buy, for Radio or Motorbiking, I get in paper copy rather than the PC/phone option.

Both very good books, but you don't even have to leave home to read them.

The first one has been reprinted in digital format and is free to download http://trpub.net/html/dx_book.htm

And the second one, well, that is available in quite a number of places including https://archive.org/details/Vhf-uhfManual

If you want it in paper format though, then you're just going to have to go out in the cold and wet on the off chance you can borrow a copy for a couple of weeks :P

VHF/UHF Books

If anyone is interested in reading up on VHF/UHF propagation, antennas, feeders, the advantages and disadvantages of pre-amps and power amplifiers here are a couple of books that I'd recommend.

Both are probably out of print, but if you go to the local library and give the title and ISBN to the librarian, they should be able to order a copy for you to borrow, even if the only copy left is in the British Library. If you are in luck, you may find some Amateur Radio books in the library section numbered 621, but my main library, in Chesterfield, seems to have removed many of them now.

The 1st book is called "The VHF/UHF DX Book" Published by DIR Publishing Ltd. ISBN 0 952 04 56 0 6.

The other, which is a bit out of date on the antenna and equipment front, but the propagation section is still useful, is the "VHF UHF Manual" by G. R. Jessop (G6JP). Published by RSGB. ISBN 0 9 00612 63 0. This one achieved near cult status back in the 1970s and was often referred to as "Jessops" in VHF/UHF circles.
