Hi guys,

That's all good sensible stuff. If I'm QRP and the other station is maybe not copying me so well, it would be handy if he could look me up and get my basic info. The fact that QRZ.COM is global really helps with this, of course.

So I'll register now with the safeguards that you mentioned as to my street address.

Looking forward to meeting you on the bands.

Hi Clive, a very warm welcome to the forum and great to have you back on the air.
I have a QRZ account and I have managed to control what data is displayed on the public page, e.g. I can remove my address, DOB etc.
Here is a screenshot of my account and you can simply enter dummy data into the mandatory fields to mask your real data if you like.

Cheers

Rob.

Completely up to you whether you register on QRZ.COM or not.

They are not the be all and end all of callsign look-up and there are many Hams not registered there and no obligation to be registered anywhere other than Ofcom.

I am on QRZ.COM, but I did not have to give my physical street address.

If someone queries why they can't find you there, there's one of two replies to them, one polite and the other not so polite.

QRZ.COM?

Hi folks. Don't be fooled by my 1992 callsign. I've just retired and so I'm going onto the bands for the very first time, a total newbie. I've got my little HF station on the air - a 1979 Yaesu FT-7 transistorised mobile and other vintage kit such as a Heathkit HFT-9 manual tuner - learn the basics first . Currently my QSO score stands at a glorious two! On my very first QSO, the station seemed a bit wary of my call - "he could not find me on QRZ.COM."

I've checked out the QRZ.COM but don't like how, to register your call, you have to provide full name and address for public view. This apparently is based on the fact that in the US (where the website is based) the FCC requires licensee's details to be viewable by the public. But of course here in UK, we can withhold our personal details on the Ofcom register if we so wish.

So to register with QRZ.COM or not? And best estimate of percentage of UK hams on it?

Many thanks,

Clive
