I started out with a home-brew butterfly dipole made from some wire I had laying around and hung off a telescoping paint roller handle about 2 meters off the ground, that worked well for me, made contacts all over the world. Then hoping to get some direction from a beam I found a used HQ-1 HYBRID-MINIQUAD on Craigslist for $75, put this up about 9 meters.
I've done some comparison test with these, This is a improvement and I can hear signals that I can't with the dipole I still don't notice any directional gain.

My 80/40M Inverted V is currently work in progress, I shall post an article in the homebrew section later today.

Cheers

Interesting to hear what operator's use, for DX my wire loop is the best when it's up in the air it seems to favour the West meaning the states are easily reached.

I use inverted-vee antennas for 40m & 20m.

I have a home made cobweb made to G3TXQs design at 30 foot and a homemade inverted v for 40 supported under neath I added some loading coils to the v and now get 80
on it as well, I recently acquired a 12 metre tennamast which i need to get up to replace the 30 foot pole. and will put up a hexbeam when I get round to making it.
sometime I want to try an inverted L for 160 but I think Im going to struggle in this garden.

Nice Russ that's why I don't always hear the stations you are in qso with and you have the height....and home brew even better.

For the lower bands i use a doublet 120m long at 25m with home brew feeder (600 ohm) and balun ,1/4 wave vertical 80m , 5/8th vertical 40m ,Th5 mk2 tribander at 25m 10,15,20 ,and recently a home brew 5 el yagi for 17m on 10m boom ,vhf/uhf x510 white stick at 18m .All knocked up in the workshop except the hygain th5.

What are you using for HF.....
I cover 80-20 with a OCF and a original cobweb for 20-10, my ocf is around 30ft high and 70 foot long and loaded for 80 and fed with homemade ladder line into a 4-1 then coax back to the shack. The cobweb is on my 45ft box section mast which for a 8x8 set of dipoles work well, I like comparing the cob against the wire on 20 and both have different characteristics at different times of the day and depending of conditions.
So what do you have up :)
